Outerbridge Horsey Associates, PLLC

Mt. Zion United Methodist church was the first African American congregation in Washington, DC, formed in 1816 by the congregation at the nearby Dumbarton Methodist Church. The current building, dating back to 1888, is a National Historic Landmark and is on the Washington, DC Freedom Trail.

The first phase of the project consisted of the restoration of windows and woodwork on the principal facade. Also completed was the outline of a master plan and proposal for a comprehensive mechanical, structural and architectural restoration and renovation. The project included a complete renovation of the adjacent parsonage as well as geotechnical and structural investigations carried out prior to installation of a new air conditioning system in the church building.

The phased project was carried out with the oversight and approval of the Pastor, Building Committee, and the Board of Trustees.
