Project Description

This new house was designed for colonial Tidewater, a high-style manor house with a two-story brick center block flanked by 1 ½ story wings. The walled entry courtyard welcomes visitors to enter the house through the two-story pedimented entry porch. A guest cottage is set slightly apart, separated from the courtyard by a boxwood lined herb garden. The entrance hall leads through the stair hall, past the cross axis and through the living room out to the rear terrace where a porch and pergola provide a restful place from which to view the river beyond. Grass steps lead down to the lawn and riverbank.

The center block contains the living room, dining room and support spaces on the 1st floor and three bedrooms with baths on the 2nd floor, with a small office overlooking the entrance courtyard. The north wing contains the kitchen, conservatory, mudroom and game room, and the south wing houses a library, the master bedroom, dressing/bathroom, and two-car garage with separate entrance.
